At last, one much needed law against the violation against women in family itself has been introduced a couple of days ago.
In a country where violence against women is one very common phenomenon irrespective of class, caste and locality one may rejoice in this news. Though some other factors will be responsible in its smooth working.
A large section of Indian women still remains unemployed and therefore the decision-making capability isn’t there for them to enjoy. Economically backwardness makes these women virtual non-entities and the exploitation continues unabated.
The reasons for exploitation are many. One primary is the dowry. Others include prospect of male child, unlimited housework etc. the situation isn’t much better for those with economic privileges, too. The male members don’t take economic empowerment of women in a favorable light and that results often in exploitation.
Though it remains to be seen that how many cases are registered, actually, keeping in view the general indifference and fear of social stigma among women.
