The condom ad with much popular ‘what is your flavor of the night’ catch line has landed in an unfavorable position with the censor board chairman firing salvo at it.
Throughout the champions trophy, till date, this advertisement of XXX Flavored Condoms has been aired. According to chairman of censor board this ‘offensive’ and ‘not meant for unrestricted viewing’ ad shouldn’t have been aired during the champions trophy which has children in a large number as its audience. Now, it has been asked to Information and Broadcasting minister and secretary to arrange to stop it from airing at that time. According to chairman the ad needs to air itself only after 11 in the night when children are supposed not to watch television.
The company promoting the condoms in India, DKT India, reacted by saying that with DoorDarshan’s approval, it thought, the time during the champions trophy matches were an ideal one since no other slot would have produced as much audience as it did at that time. The general manager of marketing Mr. Sutoshi Batliwala further added that the idea behind the ad wasn’t as offensive as the chairman of censor board thinks instead it’s something, which he thought would help to raise the awareness to use condom.
Even Sharmila Tagore clarified her position regarding the controversy by saying that she, as well, committed to spread the awareness for using the condoms but disagreed with the views what the condom company said.
