Inspired by the Chinese experiment of connecting Tibet by railway, India also, has planned a similar connection that will traverse the place of spectacular beauty, the Jammu & Kashmir.
A few months ago China made history by introducing a railway connection to Tibet. Many wondered the prospect that India has in and around Kashmir valley if something like this is introduced.
To the excitement of many, that process has already been started by the Indian Railways. From next February the train will start its journey from Kakapore to Rajwansher via Srinagar. Though the entire stretch from baramullah to Jammu will take little more than a year to complete.
The main attractions will be the places with mean sea level of around 1500 meters that this route will traverse. This includes the places around Pir Panjal mountain range to Chinar lined gateways via the longest tunnel of 11.4 kilometers through the Pir Panjal range. It has been claimed by the railways that it will take 8-10 hours to cover the entire stretch of Jammu-Baramullah.
The design of tracks has been quite a remarkable one defying the fear of earthquake. The last devastating experience had been the one that shook the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir in October 2005 with the magnitude reaching 8.5. The engineers working on the project claimed to have a design that can withstand any seismological disturbances. For the other and more imminent threat of terrorism the security agencies are taking stringent measures to tackle any such situation.
With the capacity of 40 trains running daily in both ways the tourists should not have any problem to enjoy this superb journey to its most.
Via-times of india.
