Beirut is well known for its colorful nightlife. Although thanks to the changing demography this feature is going through some drastic changes.
The women of relatively young age of early 20’s and more mature of early 30’s from the forefront leading to this change in the form of all those having resemblances with eroticism. From dancing with bare necessities on top of the bar to meaningful glances, all are there.
Not only the consumerism to be blamed for this, rather according to experts, the change in demography is one primary reason. Large section of young men, due to high unemployment, leaves the country to other middle-eastern countries in search of a job. In the coming back home they really can’t ignore the women, who usually due to family reasons stay back, to leap around them. The women on their part don’t lose the chance to mingle with as many men they like without any inhibitions.
Professor of Sociology Samir Khalaf, at the American University of Beirut, tries to cast the scenario in the light of changing demography, which has suddenly caught everyone’s attention. According to Khalaf the situation has deteriorated to such an extent where the sex ratio has shot-up to 5:1 in favor of women.
With gradually declining environment of employment the problem will increase in near future.
